Ingredients
- 5 medium/large apples (Granny Smith & Macoun)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4–1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Homemade pie crust or biscuit dough
Instructions
- Peel and slice the apples into thin pieces. In a bowl, mix apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar (to taste), cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
- Roll out your homemade pie crust on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut rounds using a large cookie cutter.
- Place spoonfuls of apple filling on one half of each round. Fold over to create pockets and seal edges by pressing them together with a fork.
- For frying: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry until golden brown on both sides. For baking: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake on parchment-lined baking sheets until golden brown for about 20 minutes.
